Where to Stay in Jacksonville
Here's the thing about Jacksonville: it's one of the largest cities by area in the contiguous U.S., so "near Jacksonville" can mean toes in the Atlantic or a high-rise on the St. Johns River. The city splits into five very different lodging zones — choose by the trip you're taking, and the rest falls into place.

Five bases, five very different trips
Skim these, find the one that sounds like your weekend, then jump to its section below.
Toes in the sand
Wake up to the Atlantic out your window. Midscale to upscale, walkable beach towns, the most rooms to choose from.
Events & business
River views, the convention hotels, and a short walk to the stadium on game day. Built for working trips and big crowds.
Value & shopping
Newer chain hotels parked beside 200+ stores. The smart-money pick — clean rooms, easy parking, usually no resort fees.
Golf & luxury
The premium enclave south of the Beaches — TPC Sawgrass, oceanfront clubs, spa days. Highest rates, longest stays.
Nearby resort escape
A barrier-island getaway about 45 minutes north. Self-contained luxury resorts for honeymoons, golf and big family trips.
Not sure yet?
First time in town and want the classic Florida feel? Start at the Beaches — easiest base for a first visit, and the section right below.
The Beaches
This is the one most visitors picture: Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach and Atlantic Beach strung along the Atlantic, with sand a few steps from the lobby. It's the highest-volume zone in town, which is good news for you — the most rooms means the most chances to find a deal, and prices run midscale to genuinely upscale depending on how close to the water you want to be. If it's your first trip and you want that easy Florida feeling, stay here.
Downtown & the Riverfront
If you're in town for work, a convention, a concert, or a Jaguars game, stay downtown on the St. Johns. The river is the whole point here — rooms look out over the water and the bridges, and you're walkable to downtown and a quick hop across to the stadium and arena district. These are the big flagship hotels, so they fill up (and spike in price) around major events. Book early when something's on the calendar.
Southside / St. Johns Town Center
This is the value play, and honestly the one we steer a lot of first-timers toward. Cluster of newer chain hotels parked right beside St. Johns Town Center — 200+ stores and restaurants — with easy interstate access in every direction and, usually, no resort fees nibbling at your bill. You give up the ocean view, but you save real money, park easily, and you're a quick drive from the Beaches, downtown, and the airport alike. Smart base for families and anyone watching the budget.
Ponte Vedra Beach
Just south of the Beaches, Ponte Vedra is the premium golf-and-spa enclave — think TPC Sawgrass, oceanfront clubs with a century of history, and the kind of stay you plan a whole trip around. This is the high end of the First Coast: the nightly rates are the steepest and the stays tend to be the longest, because people come here to settle in for golf, spa days and slow oceanfront mornings.
Amelia Island
About 45 minutes north of the city, Amelia Island is the resort escape — a self-contained barrier island where you can check in, park the car, and not think about it again until checkout. It's where honeymooners, golfers and high-end family trips land, on 13 miles of quiet Atlantic sand. A little farther from downtown Jacksonville, but worth the drive when the whole point of the trip is to disappear into a resort.
