About Jacksonville Activities

We're an independent guide to the Bold City, written the way a local would tell a friend — what's actually worth your time, where to point your car, and the honest stuff the big sites leave out.

Our story

Why this exists

Most of the big tourism sites that pop up when you search "things to do in Jacksonville" are corporate, generic, and trying to please everyone. You end up with a list of fifty attractions and no real sense of which ones are worth a Saturday and which ones you can skip.

We wanted the honest version. The stuff a friend who actually lives here would tell you over a beer: what's genuinely worth your time, where locals really go, the parking realities, and the best time of year to visit so you're not melting in August or fighting a festival crowd for a table.

And we cover the whole trip — not just the headline attractions. From things to do and beaches and outdoors, to where to eat and where to stay, plus events and easy day trips when you want to wander a little further up the coast.

What you can count on

Our promise

A short, plain list of how we work — and what we'll never do to you.

We only recommend places we'd send our own friends. If we wouldn't tell our cousin to go, it doesn't make the list. Simple as that.
We tell you when something's overrated. A guide that loves everything is useless. We'll happily steer you away from the tourist trap and toward the better, quieter spot down the road.
We keep our event calendar current. A dead events page full of last year's dates helps nobody. We tend ours instead of letting it rot.
We always tell you to double-check. Prices, hours and availability change all the time. Confirm with the operator before you go — we'll keep reminding you, because we'd rather you be early than disappointed.

How we keep the lights on

This site is free, and it's reader-supported. Here's the plain-English version of how that works.

Some of our links to tours, hotels and experiences are affiliate links. That means if you book through one of them, we may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you. You pay the same price you'd pay anyway; we just get a little credit for sending you their way.

We also run display ads on the site. Between those two things, we're able to keep researching, updating and writing without charging you a dime.

Here's the part that matters most: none of that changes what we recommend. We don't rank a hotel higher because it pays better, and we won't pretend a mediocre tour is great just because it's bookable. The picks come first; the commissions are just how the work gets paid for. You can read the full details on our privacy policy page.

For the record

Not the official anything

Just so it's clear: Jacksonville Activities is independent. We're not affiliated with the City of Jacksonville, Visit Jacksonville, or any government or tourism board. We don't speak for them, and they don't sign off on what we publish.

That independence is the whole point. It means we can be straight with you about what's worth it and what isn't, without anyone leaning on us to talk up a particular venue, event, or neighborhood.
